For two days this week a film crew has been shooting a new Will Smith movie around the NYU Campus, which I am told is about vampires. That could be a rumor though. I also heard it was a Denzel Washington movie too, so clearly my facts are all over the place.
I usually do not mind the filming of movies around my neighborhoods, in fact I usually enjoy the additional energy and excitement, however, this crew was terribly intrusive. Many times on Tuesday I was asked to stay put when leaving a building, or asked to use another street. I was even told the block I work on was closed. When I told them I needed to get to work, they told me to walk quickly to my office. They didn’t even say please. Or thank you.
Later I heard from other colleagues that they were detained in the Washington Square Park for 30 minutes while the crew tried to finish up a shot. Students on the way to their midterms were held captive during this time as well. I am happy to hear the crew finished their shot! Maybe they can let everyone else get back to their business now, too?
I have no patience for this stuff. I am generally quite happy to see the film crews come in, bringing employment to our city, but this group made it very hard to co-exist while they filmed. It is disappointing to see this kind of work being done in NYC. All for a movie I am almost certain no one I know, will see.
