Brooklyn Consumption

On Saturday Alex and I gave Porchetta, a relatively new Italian place on Smith Street, a visit. We got there pretty early, maybe 7(?), and they were already packed. The waitress offered to let us sit at the bar, which we have recently grown to like, especially when you are hungry and really don’t care where you are sitting. So we sat at the bar, next to a food critic (we think), who ate several entrees.

We ordered oysters (us), sea bass (me), pork something (alex), and a chocolaty-nutella,-hazlenut-espresso dessert (us), which was awesome. While I am missing a great amount of detail here, I really enjoyed dinner. The plates were small, and I think we could have easily have added a primi, but it was definitely recommendable.

After Porchetta, we cruised over to Zombie Hut, where Alex killed me at 5+ games of Connect Four and then we proceeded to consume a few G+Ts and two frozen zombies for two, and tiki shots.

THEN, we headed back to Park Slope and made a stop at the Carriage Inn. It was a strange scene. It reminded me of going to a bar where lots of people you didn’t like in high school still hang out and sing karaoke. However, the beers were cheap and if you had enough friends with you, you could dominate the bar and the karaoke. Our apologies to Sara and Matt for calling you multiple times hoping you would come and join us in the singing festivities.

Sunday morning we somehow managed to make our way to the park with Sasha and then to Cobble Hill for brunch at Patois, which was awesome. Awesome. Alex and I both ordered the potato pancake with scallion scrambled eggs and lox. So good. Patois, you did us well. We also spotted the nerdy chef from Cookin’ in Brooklyn, which I love and hate all at the same time. We made a quick trip to Dumbo to check out some of their furniture stores (and to make fun of the people who take portraits in front of the graffiti covered Tobacco Warehouse).

We soon realized we only had interest in going to Jacques Torres for a chocolate chip cookie and headed home to take naps (sasha and me) and play video games (alex).
