26.2 miles? No problem….

I actually don’t have much to add about the Need for Speed race aside that it was awesome fun. Getting up at 4:15 isn’t sweet, but hanging out with a group of old and new friends was definitely great times.

Here Alex hands off the rfid “baton” bracelet to me. I love how serious he looks at his very first race.

The race part was a fun mix of running, cheering, raving about our magic beans, laughing about our team name (the Bear Mountain Brawlers) when the cause was against domestic violence, and getting lost in the car—it’s amazing how easily people will follow others even when they know it’s wrong. At one point about 15 cars followed one car the wrong way to a monastery, down a one way hill and then had to wait for all the cars who followed them to pass through the one way road so we could all drive illegally back up the road. Grr. I actually can’t believe we made it to our runner in time after all that.

Everyone seemed to have a great time and our team did really well. I think we placed 31st out of 119 teams and that includes the all male and all superstar teams. Yay! Go us! We wrapped up the race in New Rochelle with some beers and wings and then headed home. I think everyone is psyched to do it again next year. Here are some photos from the race: Mine, Alex’s.

In other racing news, Alex got into the NYC marathon too so now we are in full training mode. And by training mode, I mean not running once since the relay, but eating lots of pasta dishes anyway–in fact I am eating tortellini right now. We’ll get crackin’ on this training thing soon, I think… So stay tuned for our training updates and we’ll keep you posted whereabouts we think we might be during certain times on Sunday, November 4th because there is no way we are finishing 26.2 miles without a few fans along the route.

P.S. Does anyone know anyone along the marathon route in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area?
