Karen's Resolutions for 2008

Oh hi everyone! You may not remember me, but I used to write for this blog. So far 2008 has been super busy with work and freelance projects that I haven’t given much time to blogging, but I’m back and will hopefully start writing more regularly again.

Since it seems February 18 is the new January 1, here are my 2008 resolutions (originally drafted in early January):

Take a photo a day
After watching Alex take a photo everyday in 2007, I have to admit I was jealous. There were so many times when he wouldn’t take the photo I thought he should take, and frankly he was right not to, it was after all his project. But 2008 is my year! I will take a photo a day for the next 365 days (I am actually already 41 down). I am excited to see what happens with this project.

Take yoga classes.
I don’t have a great explanation for why except that I pay a monthly fee for a gym that I might see four times a month. Much like racing, I think I need an organized event to stay on task.

Get my design on
When I was at ITP I was constantly going to lectures and events, and now that I am just working I have allowed myself to get less involved with such activities, which I think stifles creative energy. I’d like to attend at least one design, art, technology, etc. type event a month this year.

Finish our basement
I don’t know if this counts as a resolution, but I’d like to make our basement more usable. Right now it’s mostly storage, but with such limited apartment space it seems like we should take advantage of the added room we have downstairs.

Take a letterpress class
I’ve been obsessed with letterpress work for a number of years now and I think it’s finally time to take a class. Luckily, I received a gift certificate for the Center for Book Arts from Vicky for Christmas so now I just need to find a course and date that works.

And of course, there are many others: eat more vegetables, drink a glass of milk a day (easy when paired with anything peanut butter), sew more, read more, but I think that’s a good start for the rest of the year. I’ll keep you posted on how these goals progress.
