It’s been so long since I’ve blogged, WordPress changed the interface. And I forgot my password. Anyway, happy 2009 friends! I hope you had a fun holiday and 2008. It’s time for the annual, “let’s see how I did with my resolutions from last year” post.
Take a photo a day
I did this! I wasn’t awesome at it—I waited a month between posting daily photos, but I posted a photo from everyday last year, even for the extra day for leap year. Check out the full collection here.
While there were a lot of days of taking foliage photos when things weren’t too exciting around here, it’s awesome having a visual journal of 2008. Alex is going to take over this project for 2009, as he did in 2007, and I think we’ll alternate years on this project.
Take yoga classes
Hmm. I took… two, maybe three? The first one was awesome. The second one was a little too crunchy for me and I never went back. There is a real lack of competitive spirit in yoga I’ve learned, which may not be for me. Maybe you’ve read about how I’m competitive? Ok, I’ve officially juiced that race for all it’s worth.
Get my design on
One of my big reasons for this resolution last year was that I felt stuck creatively and was looking for some kind of outlet to get me moving. I went to a few design events: SXSW, some AIGA events, a design lecture here and there, but the big design change in 2008 was that I left my job at NYU after seven and half years. I loved working there, but had learned everything I could in my role and needed to make a move in order to grow. In early December I went to R/GA to do interaction design and have been learning something new everyday since I arrived. It’s been a great change and I am really happy I made the switch.
Finish our basement
Check! Though, I still need to hem some curtains that cover a large part of the space, so photos haven’t been posted yet.
Take a letterpress class
I did this too! I didn’t post about this, so I’ll take this opportunity to tell you about it now. I took my letterpress class at the Center for Book Arts in NYC. It was two days of all day letterpress and it was awesome. SO MUCH WORK, but really fun. It was amazing to see the whole process and incredible to think that people actually set books with lead type back in the day. We made business cards, and collaborated with the class on two sets of note cards. Do you know how hard it is to collaborate with strangers? Check out this flickr set to see some photos from the class.
So, overall I’d say 2008 was successful for resolutions, aside from the whole yoga mishap. Maybe 2009 will be my year for yoga? Or maybe not. Stay tuned for my next post when I reveal what’s in store for me in 2009! I know you can’t wait.
p.s. Special plug: If like letterpress, but don’t feel like taking a class yourself, check out this letterpress store, Knotty Pine Press, run and created by my friends Laura and Wes.
