The Meaning of a Name

Lots of folks have asked us the origin of the name Elise Ariadna and I realize I didn’t mention in the last post why we picked that name.

We picked Elise, as it’s a derivative of my Mom’s name: Elsie. My Mom was actually named after her Grandmother Elise, so we decided to go back to the original for a little variation, but still keeping a family name that we happened to like very much.

Ariadna is Alex’s Mom’s first name (though she goes by Victoria, her middle name) and his Grandmother’s first name. I’ve always liked this name since I met his family, and since we liked the idea of using family names, it worked out perfectly.

We’re lucky to have such good names in the family, but also very proud to name our daughter after such wonderful, caring and thoughtful women.

Grandma Elsie (or Cody Grandma, if you’re talking to my nieces and nephews) and Elise.

Grandma Vicky and Elise.

I had wondered if Elise was a nod to your mother :) ILOVE that you guys used family names. I think it's special to the person being honored and tot he littleone that will one day know why such special names were chosen.

I just saw this comment now. Thanks so much! I think Elise will be happy that she shares her name with her two awesome grandmas.
